Where to look for a wedding venue in Czechia - data from 1,315 venues

Which Czech regions actually have wedding venues, why Prague offers the smallest choice, and where to look for a castle or a barn. An analysis of our catalogue of 1,315 Czech wedding venues.

Historic castle surrounded by a park

Couples planning a wedding in Czechia usually start by searching around the city they know - most often Prague. Data from our catalogue shows that venue supply is distributed very unevenly across the country, and that a short drive can multiply your options several times over.

This article draws on 1,315 active wedding venues listed in our catalogue as of August 2026. It is not a survey or an estimate: venue type and region are filled in for every single listing, so these numbers describe the actual supply rather than a sample of it.

Supply concentrates around Prague - but not in Prague

The region with the most wedding venues is Central Bohemia with 231, roughly 18 % of the entire national supply. South Bohemia follows with 136 venues, then the Hradec Králové and South Moravian regions with 99 each.

Prague itself has only 93 venues, about 7 % of the total. For couples set on getting married in the city, that means a limited choice, high demand and dates that disappear early. The flip side is encouraging: Central Bohemia, the richest region in the country, begins a few kilometres beyond the city limits. An hour's drive more than doubles your options.

At the other end of the scale sit the Karlovy Vary region with 34 venues and the Pardubice region with 46. If you are searching there, expect either to compromise or to travel.

Castles are not where you would expect them

The catalogue lists 132 castles and chateaux, distributed very unevenly:

  • Central Bohemia: 32 castles - almost a quarter of the entire Czech supply
  • Ústí nad Labem region: 10 - the second highest count, which surprises most couples
  • South Bohemia: 9
  • Plzeň 6, Moravian-Silesian 5, Karlovy Vary 4, Prague 4
  • The Zlín and Pardubice regions have one each

In short, a castle wedding in Czechia is largely a Central Bohemian affair. For international couples this is convenient: most of these castles lie within an hour of Prague airport, so guests can fly in and reach the venue the same afternoon.

Barns and farmsteads follow the countryside

Farmsteads and barns together account for 254 venues, nearly twice the number of castles. Most are again in Central Bohemia (63), followed by South Bohemia (33) and the Vysočina region (24).

Vysočina is an interesting case. With 68 venues in total it sits in the lower half of the ranking, yet more than a third of its supply consists of farmsteads and barns. If you want a rustic wedding with timber, hay bales and open countryside, it is worth searching there specifically - competition for dates tends to be lower than in Central Bohemia.

Prague, by contrast, has seven such venues. A rustic barn wedding is simply not a Prague thing.

Hotels make up a third of the supply

The single largest category is hotels and resorts with 418 venues, close to a third of the catalogue. That is no accident: a hotel solves the reception, guest accommodation and getting-ready space in one go, which is exactly where historic buildings tend to struggle.

Next come farmsteads (171), restaurants (138), castles (132), mills (86), barns (83), vineyards (45) and villas (43).

A castle does not mean a large wedding

A common assumption is that castles only suit grand weddings with a hundred guests or more. The data says otherwise. Among the 42 castles with a stated maximum capacity:

  • 11 accommodate up to 100 guests
  • 24 have a capacity between 100 and 200
  • 7 can host more than 200

The smallest castle in the catalogue seats 35 guests, the largest a thousand. Given that a typical Czech wedding has around sixty guests, a castle is a realistic option for an intimate celebration too - you just need to pick the right one.

An honest caveat: capacity is filled in for 292 of the 1,315 venues, roughly a fifth of the catalogue. Treat the capacity figures as a sample rather than a market average. The venue counts and their regional distribution carry no such limitation - those data are complete.

What to take away

  1. Widen your radius to an hour's drive. Around Prague the difference between "in the city" and "half an hour out" is dramatic - 93 venues versus 231 in Central Bohemia.
  2. Search by venue type, not by district. For a castle, look to Central Bohemia or the Ústí region. For a barn, try Vysočina and South Bohemia.
  3. Do not rule out a castle because your wedding is small. A quarter of castles with stated capacity cater to weddings of up to a hundred guests.
  4. Book earlier in thinly covered regions. Karlovy Vary and Pardubice have the smallest supply, so dates go faster.
