Blejski otok (Blejský ostrov)

Slovenia's only natural island is home to the baroque Church of the Assumption, reached by newlyweds aboard traditional pletna boats. Tradition has it that the groom carries the bride up the 99 steps to the top of the island and rings the wishing bell there for a happy marriage. Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox ceremonies are held with the island reserved exclusively for the couple and their guests during the celebration.
