When to book a wedding venue in Czech Republic — planning timeline
When to book your Czech wedding venue, photographer, DJ and other vendors. Complete 18-month planning timeline.
Short answer: 12–18 months ahead
Popular wedding venues in Czech Republic — castles, well-known barns, Prague hotels — are booked for summer dates (May–September, Saturdays) 12–18 months in advance. If you have a specific venue and date in mind, book as soon as possible.
Wedding planning timeline
18–12 months before the wedding
- Set your budget and approximate guest list.
- Choose and book the wedding venue.
- Fix the date (civil registry + venue must align).
- Book your photographer and videographer — popular ones fill up fast.
12–9 months before
- Book your DJ or live band.
- Select and book catering if not provided by the venue.
- Start looking for a wedding dress (alterations take 6+ months).
- Book honeymoon flights and accommodation if applicable.
9–6 months before
- Order wedding rings.
- Book your florist.
- Sort groomswear for the groom and any groomsmen.
- Confirm officiant (for a non-civil ceremony).
- Send Save-the-Date cards — especially important for international guests.
6–3 months before
- Order invitations.
- Finalise menu with caterer.
- Schedule an engagement shoot and venue walk-through with your photographer.
- File the formal notice of marriage with the registry office (required at least 3 weeks before; more notice is better if the ceremony is in a different district).
- Choose and order the wedding cake.
3–1 month before
- Finalise the seating plan.
- Confirm all final details with DJ, photographer and florist.
- Wedding dress fitting.
- Hair and make-up trial run.
- Plan the ceremony order and any readings or performances.
Final week
- Pay remaining balances to all vendors.
- Pack wedding guest favours.
- Check the weather forecast and confirm rain plan with the venue.
- Rest — you've got this.
What if you have less time?
If your wedding is less than 6 months away, flexibility on the date is key:
- Friday and weekday slots have much better availability.
- Shoulder season months (April, October, November).
- Smaller and lesser-known venues — often just as beautiful, without the waiting lists.
Start by browsing all venues and filtering by your preferred region.
Most common timing mistakes
- Booking the venue too late — in popular months this means settling for second choice.
- Verbal holds without a signed contract — you risk losing the date and your provisional booking.
- Forgetting to file the marriage notice — minimum 3 weeks required by Czech law; aim for 2+ months.
- Not sending Save-the-Dates for international guests — send at least 9 months ahead so they can plan travel.
